FBML Tutorial – UPDATED How to setup Facebook Landing Page or Custom Tab

Posted: February 7th, 2011 | Author: admin | Filed under: Facebook | Tags: , , , , , , , | 25 Comments »

As Facebook updates their service, the backend admin pages change. Here is an updated video on where to set your custom tabs for first time visitors. For those asking why they do not have a default landing page option here are a few possibilities: 1. You’ve merged your Facebook Business page with it’s corresponding Places page effectively changing the layout to the new FB profile. There are no tabs with this new layout. 2. I’ve been told not every country has the same options as displayed in the US. 3. The page in question is NOT a Facebook Business page, but perhaps a group, places or other community page.

@Dareniel – without knowing your setup or seeing your screen I cannot give you an exact answer. Here are a few possibilities:

@amyrhoads – this tutorial is specifically for an official FB page not a community page. It’s my understanding that community pages do not have the default landing page option.

Also, if you have a business and have merged your Places page with your Business page, you will lose the default landing page option.

The video was done well but I get the same as others. I don’t have a default landing page option for my page. Does it have to be an official page vs a community page?

@MMISMAGS822CONTEST8 – the most recent info is on the Facebook Developer Forums. There are certain locations/countries where that feature isn’t available, or has been removed. The video is current (as of 12/07/2010) and the option should appear for you as it does in the video.

Unfortunately, I do not have an answer as to why some people have the option & others do not. I am not directly affiliated with Facebook.

Is there a newer verison………there is no “Default Landing Page” option anywhere….

@dronniejshow the code shows up about 1:27 in the video, and I leave it on screen for quite some time. Which code did you have a question about?

  17. 17 dronniejshow said at 4:32 pm on February 7th, 2011:

Why does everyone always swift through the FTML CODE part.

@shoaib6122 you need FTP or web access to your server to upload your graphics. If you’re uploading content today, then you should be able to upload an image. From Facebook, you simply point to your website (as shown in the video) because you cannot upload the graphic for use on Facebook’s servers.

hey .. please tell how to make that code in FBML ..and how to upload an image to your server ????

Hi AJ Thank for another awesome Video. I am sure a lot of peoples going to take benefits from it.

@lyuksk – the most current information appears to be in the Facebook Developer forums. From what I have read, there have been instances where Facebook removed the Default Page feature, and restored as well as restricting by country/location.

I don’t know if what you are experiencing is a bug of some sort, or simply a feature change in your area.

I have the same problem, I just dont have option for set landing page. I made a lot of fcb page and this is first time what I have similar problem. In other page I have normal option.

  24. 24 ajwood2001 said at 6:17 pm on February 7th, 2011:

@croatiandirter – if you’re still setup with the previous interface, I have a video tutorial on that as well. If you look at my channel there is a Facebook list for videos. If you have a screen cap somewhere online, I can try to be of more assistance.

@ajwood2001 I’m sure what I selected. A am administrator… Only explanation is that is new face and that option is integrated few day ago and I’m from east Europe and maybe Facebook didn’t itegrated that option yet for east Europe :/
