@DukeJohnH Like most things, I suppose there can be argued both good and bad things on the stop-loss portion of the bill. For me, it’s a “good” thing because it will protect problem gamblers, and it will help to win over the votes needed to pass an online gambling bill. I am not a sports bettor, so perhaps I don’t fully appreciate your argument. But I would think that a stop loss may be fluid depending on what a player is wagering on. And who knows, it may even be set high enough for you.

I wrote to the California congressman that wants to put a stop loss on the bill. I know you stated on the show it is a good thing, but as a sports bettor, I don’t see how stopping me from placing a bet the next day or something because I lost a certain amount is a good thing. I would never keep all my money in one account, so determining what is an “acceptable” loss to me seem to be telling me I am incapable of governing myself. As an American, I should have at least that personal freedom.

@hellasow I fear that the road to an eventual legal industry with an open, free market (which would allow offshore companies into the States) will be paved straight through government monopolization.

In other words, it’s a Catch 22: The government will NEVER allow the industry to be legal and regulated… unless they do it themselves and prove that it works. Only then will the market eventually open up to private corps.

    PS: Hope I’m wrong!
